Planning your trip is easier with Coram® by your side

Two couples walking on the beach

Planning a trip? We’re excited for you. We also know it can be stressful as you travel with nutrition or infusion therapy. Whether you’re traveling in the United States or to another country, we’re glad to help. We’ll walk you through important details as you prepare for your trip with your therapy. Let both your doctor and Coram team know about your travel plans. Do this at least two weeks before your trip, if possible.

If you're traveling by air, our Patient Advocates can work with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you alert us at least 72 hours before your departure, we can let the TSA know about your medically necessary liquids and specific medical needs, and request special assistance. If you need to travel by air with less than 72- hour notice, call TSA Cares at 1-855-787-2227. Inform them of your medical needs and ask for support at the screening checkpoint.

For infusion patients

  • If you need nursing services during your trip, talk to your doctor. You may need an order from a doctor with a license in the state you are visiting. Your Coram pharmacy team can also help. We can let you know if you will have continued coverage for your therapy in the state or country you are visiting.
    • If your trip will last for more than one week out of your home state, we may need extra time to check if your insurance will cover shipments from another state.
  • If you plan to travel out of the country, let Coram know at least one month before you leave. This gives us time to help you address how you can safely travel with your therapy.

For enteral nutrition patients

  • With advanced notice, your Coram Enteral Refill team can coordinate your monthly shipments to the place you’ll be visiting in the United States.
    • If your trip will last for more than one week out of your home state, we may need extra time to check if your insurance will cover shipments from another state.
  • If you plan to travel out of the country, let Coram know at least one month before you leave. This gives us time to help you address how you can safely travel with your formula and supplies. Extra pump or gravity bag may be needed as a backup. In general, we can’t ship enteral therapy to another country. But here are some options:
    • We can coordinate some formulas to change to a powder version or to Nestle tetra packs.
    • You may ship two weeks of formula and supplies to where you’ll stay. But please note, your package may not get delivered if it gets held up at customs.
    • We can work with our manufacturer partners in the country you’ll stay. We can help find products closest to what you use. Please note, you may not be able to get the same one. You’ll also need to pay out of pocket for the products.
